An excellent time was had by all at the Cork ICPLA conference at the end of June. While the weather was somewhat cloudy and drizzly, the presentations were all high quality, and the companionship up to usual ICPLA standards.
This was one of the biggest ICPLA conferences ever, and a high spot was the presentation of the Honours of the Association to Professor David Crystal, who has done more than anyone else to bring the area of clinical linguistics into being and to highlight its importance.
He ran an hour-long conversation on clinical linguistics, chaired by Paul Fletcher, which we hope to report in Clinical Linguistics and Phonetics soon. David and Paul are pictured below during the conversation. The ICPLA Honours award (a Waterford crystal bowl) can be seen on the table.

Further details of our trip to Europe will be forthcoming soon!
